[ As silly as it was, Sheryl was feeling pretty cheery from that secret. She waited for Kamina by the front of her hotel, hoping that he'd actually wear appropriate clothing (i.e. a shirt) as she tapped her foot, humming to herself. This was a songwriting sort of mood. She was wearing her usual getup of aviators and a floppy hat; the sun had mostly set by now, but she liked being able to go around unrecognized. ]

[kamina was still convinced that shirts were stupid, but here he was, stepping through his door at 7:01:00, wearing a snazzy t-shirt (http://static.hlj.com/images/csp/csp27700.jpg), jeans, and sneakers. he could be appropriate.

also severely whipped. she hadn't outright rejected him. called him obvious, but there was no unkindness to it. the fact inspired a hope strong enough to power through his intense nervousness and make him feel like walking on air.

he grinned.] Yo.

Well, it definitely suits you. Come on, let's go! [ She stands up from the bench she was sitting on, heading towards the street ] I thought just looking at books would get boring, so we're trying something tailor-made for you!

[he follows with his hands in his pockets and his head cocked to the side in total confusion, and his the tone of his voice is wary. things like herding rabbits or hanging upside down from ropes tied to trees happened to him when someone said something like that.] Tailor-made?

[ a block or two later, they come out on a brightly lit, bustling street lined with restaurants and fast food places ] Well, you like food, don't you?

[ she grabs his arm and maneuvers along until they get to a fast food place with a huge, lit-up sign, and then points at the word "hamburger" ] We're starting here!

['here' could be anywhere as far as kamina was concerned. long as it had decent food and a nice view, he was good. he squints up at the bright sign. man, what he would do for his sunglasses right about now.] What's so special about here? An' what does that say?

Hamburger! Those are the first two letters, A and B. [ she points them out with her finger ]

A and B... So...A looks like a mountain! And B looks like a sideways ass! [SO PROUD OF HIMSELF]

...Sure. Whatever works for you. [ she takes out a notebook and writes "HAMBURGER", then draws a picture of a burger underneath ] Well, it doesn't matter much if we go in order, since we're already here... The first letter is H, and the third is M.

[he hums quietly as he takes in the information, mouthing the newly-learned symbols. it's a minute or so before he takes the pen out of sheryl's hand and writes 'HAMB' or rather, does his best to write it. the letters are huge, slanted, shaky, barely legible. and most important of all?

Right! Next is U-R. [ She puts her hand around his to write out the six letters in a somewhat more legible fashion, because there's no point in teaching him if he doesn't know how to write them correctly, and also because she's kind of in a really good mood still ]

that's a shock because he's completely forgot about everything else. he stares at the first word he's ever written in his life.] H-Hamburger. H-A-M-B-U-R-G-E-R. [he sneaks a glance at her hand on his. that feeling in his stomach isn't just hunger.]

So now, try reading these! [ she deftly takes the pen from him, but stays standing close as she taps the pen on her chin for a moment, then writes down in clear capitals HUG, BRAG, and RAGE ]

[get a hold on yourself, kamina! these little scribbles are nothin' compared to you! you took a huge ganmen from a beastman by ripping him right outta the cockpit! THEY DON'T SCARE YOU! WHO THE HELL DID THEY THINK YOU WERE, SOME DUMBASS? KICK THEIR LITTLE, WEIRDLY-SHAPED ASSES!]

H-...um, that's the one that looks like a bucket so, U-G? And B-R-A-G. And I think the last one's R-A-G-E. [he shifts from foot to foot while waiting for his score.]

Crap... [this was even harder than figuring out what they were. he stumbles over the pronunciations, and surprisingly, he gets 2 out of three: 'hug' and 'rage'. 'brag' sounds a bit off since the 'a' isn't long and the ending sounds like 'gue'.]

I thought for sure you'd get 'rage' wrong! It's 'brag', the last one, but good job! [ links her arm with his, grinning up at him ] Want to go inside, or look for some other place?
